More people than ever are using the internet. According to the Pew Research Center, almost 90% of all American adults go online and for some demographic groups like Millennials, internet use is “ubiquitous.”
And large numbers of those people are turning to the internet not just for breaking news, YouTube videos or social media, but for their health. While 70% of American adults asked a doctor about a health condition, an almost equal number asked Google or WebMD, turning to the web to research and/or self-diagnose conditions (leading to the rise of what Pew calls “online diagnosers”).
